Foundation Portfolio Concept - Brandon & Katie

  Concept: 

Title: Ticking - The theme of the clock in the title
Target Audience: 16+ 
Genre conventions w/ explanations:  
Character: The Character used will be a faucet for: the building of tension, feelings of vulnerability, and suspensefulness. This will be achieved by casting a female, since they are stereotypically seen as weaker and more vulnerable to danger. The age of the characters, 16-18, makes the audience worried about their safety, since they are so young. Thriller films need this as they function on suspense.  
 
Setting + Time: This film will be set at school, specifically a container classroom at City Impact School. This place is private property, implying that it is inherently a safe place. Since we want to have the feeling of vulnerability as a main point, using a ‘safe place’, and having the character in danger, will make the theme have a greater effect.  
We will be shooting the film at around 6.30pm to 8pm, for the light levels, because we want a dark environment to support the themes of danger and vulnerability.  

Props and costume: the props and costume are going to be based around a student. This includes textbooks, pencil case, folders, headphones, the school uniform, (with some adjustments to make it seem like the student is a bit more relaxed) and a bag to put all the things in. These props show the innocence of the student and how they are focused on the schoolwork and not their surroundings.  
 
plot synopsis:  
film starts with establishing shots of the school classroom block, and the container.  
the camera will follow the character to the container, into the container and what she does while in there. 

The shots will be very long and slow, making the pace of the film slow. There won't be any explicit action but there will be a lot happening outside of the container affecting what happens inside the container.  
 

The diegetic sound will be very loud, with personalized low tones, bass drum, in the background to support the diegetic sounds. 

 
Characters and names: 
jennifer- character 1- the main character 
She will be showing the audience what to feel and what they need to feel for themselves, as the action unfolds. She wants to work late at school and previously (but not shown in the opening) has problems with a stalker. The relaxed costume that she will be wearing is meant to symbolize how she feels, relaxed and ‘loose’ (not overly conscious of her surroundings).  

 
Practicalities of filming/content: 
practicalities of filming are realistic, simple 

Idea of film could be plausible 

The are very little health and safety risks, the only major one would be the light level around where we are filming and all the problems that come with that. For example, we need to be vigilant about what we are stepping on.  
 
location is on school property, we will just need to get permission from the principal to film late at night. 

The location that we are planning to film at is not affected by the weather.  

Equipment- camera, microphone, lighting kits 

There are no difficult shots to film.
